Hi Teacake

I think you will have to give more info:

Have you turned the cruse control on!

have you got your foot on the break when you turn it on?

checked any fuses?

re the break shudder I assume you had the problem before you changed the disc's and pads? have yuu got the disc's on streight

how hard are you breaking to get the shudder?

just some questions?

Mine did this, check the little pipe behind the indicator, it can perish

on the tdi the cruise control is fly by wire - not vacuum based at all

may be faulty clutch switch (assuming its not an auto) turning it off straight away (brake switch has 2 sets of contacts or two switches cant remember) one of these may be faulty

Just a thought Nik... does the fly-by-wire cruise take it's signal from the ABS encoder ring? If so, then an ABS fault might show up in the cruise control as well?

Can i fix these switches my self (it is a manual) or do i have to buy parts for it?

thanks again

I had the same problem with my Alhambra TDI. Both pedal switches were OK. The problem was a broken 'cruise set' wire where the wires pass into the indicator stalk (I assume the cruise control switches are in the indicator stalk, on your car). Switching the right indicator on brought the broken wire ends together and the cruise control worked!

Remove the column top cover (around the hazard light switch) and you can see the wires, where they lead to the indicator stalk.

Cost of a new indicator / wiper / hazard switch assembly; >
